The following are some tips on getting ready along with details about the sample agenda. The agenda has links to all the materials you will need: activity instructions, PowerPoint slides, video, forms and handouts. Please note that we have provided a sample one-day agenda, but if that is not possible, the activities can be conducted over two half-days instead.
Getting Ready
- identify the participating afterschool centers and provide them with the GSG Starter Kit for Afterschool Centers
- meet with center directors to review expectations
- select the evidence-based curriculum, and choose a date/time for the hands-on professional development
- get a copy of the GSG poster for each of the participating sites (you can email your request to bdworken@aed.org)
Welcome aboard! It’s exciting to know that you will be conducting staff development on GSG. It means that the work of the program is going forward and more students, especially girls, will be experiencing engaging, fun and effective STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities. GSG staff development is important for both Intermediary and afterschool center staff. It lays the groundwork for the importance of GSG, gives the local GSG team an opportunity to plan together and announces and establishes the initiative in the community.
